(Thursday) 12:00 PM - 13:30 PM Place: International Conference Hall (4F), Bldg. 140-2, SNU GSIS Presenter: Professor Ramon Pacheco Pardo (King's College London) and Dr. Robyn Klingler-Vidra (King's College London) Moderator: Professor Jeong, Hyeok (SNU GSIS) Language: English    The Seoul National University Institute of International Affairs (IIA) held the 39th Global Prominence Seminar on April 17th, 2025, at the SNU Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), which convened Professor Ramon Pacheco Pardo and Dr. Robyn Klingler-Vidra from King's College London. They spoke on the evolving dynamics of startup capitalism in East Asia, exploring how government initiatives supporting high-growth, technologically driven startups often serve not only as disruptors but also as enablers of established, large firms. The book talk was held in the International Conference Room at SNU GSIS, with more than 60 students in attendance. It was followed by an engaging Q&A session with participants, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members from GSIS and the wider SNU community.

He spoke on the topic of the "Nuclear Alliance Restraint". The lecture was held at the International Conference room of the SNU GSIS, with more than 50 students attending. The lecture was followed by an active Q&A session with participants, including students from GSIS and the larger SNU community. The Asia and the World Seminar Series at SNU GSIS is sponsored by Toyota Motor Korea.

Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies (SNU GSIS) Professor Han, JeongHun moderated the seminar, and former Speaker of the National Assembly and Professor by Special Appointment Park, Byeong Seug, gave a presentation entitled “Korean Politics: Is Cooperation Impossible? Asking the Way Amid Political Chaos".   Professor Park covered various issues within the current South Korean politics including confirmation hearings in the parliament, the Press Arbitration Act, the Prosecutorial reform bill as well as topics on the Constitutional amendment, revision of the electoral law, and amendment to the Political Parties Act. With emphasis on compromise being the essence of politics, seminar was concluded with an active Q&A session covering topics from solutions to extreme political polarity and better ways to achieve cooperation.

The seminar was moderated by Professor Semee Yoon from the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University, and featured presentations by David O’Connor, Representative to the UN, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Shen Fulai, former head of the Economic and Trade Policy Unit at UNEP Resources and Markets Branch, titled "Global Sustainable Economy Initiatives: Development and Prospects". Mr. O’Connor, on the topic of the global challenges and Korea’s role, gave a presentation on the basic concepts of SDGs, the current status of SDGs, and how to accelerate the current progress. Mr. Sheng explained the concept of green economy from a historical perspective. By defining the term, green economy, as well as South Korea and OECD’s role in regard to green growth, the presentation was concluded with the process of the UNEP initiative on the matter of green economy. He highlighted Amazon’s position as the world’s number one corporate purchaser of renewable energy, achieving its goal of matching 100% of its global electricity use with renewable energy in 2023—seven years ahead of its original 2030 target. Dr. Haig also emphasized Amazon’s commitment to leveraging innovative strategies to lead the global green energy transition while aligning with its sustainability goals.
