IIA Pacific Report July 2023 No.4
The Institute of International Affairs has released the new Pacific Report No. 4.In this issue, Professor Young Nam Cho at the Graduate School of International Studies at Seoul National University contributed an article
titled 'Past, Present, and Future of the South Korea-China Relations'.
Professor Young Nam Cho diagnoses two major characteristics that emerge in the development of South Korea-China relations: China's consistent policy towards the Korean Peninsula and the fluctuating policy of Korea towards China, and the widening gap in national power and technological/industrial
competitiveness between the two countries.
Additionally, he analyzes that the future of South Korea-China relations will involve more elements of competition and conflicts, such as competition
between the US and China, the North Korean issue, and a deterioration in mutual perception between the citizens of both countries,
rather than cooperative elements.
