IIA Pacific Report July 2023 No.5

The Insitute of International Affairs has released the new Pacific Report No. 5. In this issue, Professor Sandip Kumar Mishra at the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University contributed an article titled 'India's Diplomatic Strategy amidst the US-China Competition and Lessons for South Korea'. Professor Mishra emphasizes that India is closely observing China's recent assertive behavior and shares many aspects of its stance with the United States. However, it is important to note that India's intention is not to seek direct confrontation with China; instead, it aims to maintain its "strategic autonomy" in foreign policy. India seeks to convey that the pursuit of strategic autonomy is not meant to dilute its relationship with the United States. Professor Mishra argues that there are lessons Korea can learn from this approach.
