The Institute of International Affairs has released the new Pacific Report No. 14.
In this issue, Professor Cha Taesuh of Sungkyunkwan University contributed an article titled 'The Historical Background of the 2024 Presidential Election and America's Fate.'
Professor Cha explains that the Ukraine war not only signaled the end of Pax Americana but also announced the world's regression into a Hobbesian reality best explained by grim realism.
Moreover, the weakening of domestic democracy has negatively impacted America's foreign leadership, presenting another dimension of challenge to Washington's efforts to restore a rules-based order.
Professor Cha comments that regardless of Trump’s precarious political fate, we will witness the Republican Party persistently incorporating illiberal voices of anti-intervention, retrenchment, and protectionism from the white working class into the foreign policy decision-making process.
